THE BUILD GUIDE / PROJECT PLANNING
What to Check Before Buying a Replica Car Body
Confirm the exact body scope, compatibility information, supplied condition and written quotation before purchasing. Treat photographs as context and verify the details your build depends on.

Check the identity and contents
Ask what the body is made from, where it is manufactured and which reference or design it follows. For our shell, the confirmed answers are fiberglass, United States manufacturing and a 1954 first-series reference body.
Request an itemized list of the shell, separate panels, doors and interior pieces. Ask which components visible in photographs are optional. A body with fitted trim is not automatically a body package that includes that trim.
Check the information needed for fitment
Identify the chassis and drivetrain configuration, along with parts already purchased. Have your builder specify the measurements, drawings and other information needed to review the body. Do not assume a shell fits a platform because another project looks similar.
Apply the same approach to doors, glazing and exterior hardware. Confirm the specific components, counterpart pieces and mounting information rather than treating a shared product description as an interchangeability guarantee.
Check the condition and the remaining work
Ask about the supplied surface condition and applicable preparation guidance. Get the workshop’s own assessment of the work it will undertake. Keep assembly, paint, upholstery and mechanical completion separate from the body purchase unless expressly included.
Ask for additional photographs if a relevant detail is not visible. Current, clearly captioned product views are more useful than inferring specifications from a dramatic finished-car image. Our gallery identifies body stages and finishing references for that reason.
Check the commercial scope in writing
Review price, optional parts, current availability, lead time, delivery destination and packaging. Ask for the applicable ordering and payment terms before making a commitment. There are no fixed deposit or warranty terms published on this site.
Keep open questions attached to the quote until they are resolved. An enquiry is the opportunity to define the purchase clearly, rather than an order itself. Use the form or email sales with your checklist and project information.
